08 Aug 2013 Twitter and LinkedIn among companies joining transparency trend
While ISP’s often selectively reject government requests for the data of the companies’ users, such as email and IP addresses, they also frequently comply with such requests.
To address public concerns about such contacts with governments, some ISP’s have begun issuing regular transparency reports, which give details of the requests, including the number of requests received from government agencies and the percentages of compliance. The precise details provided by individual companies vary.
In its recent transparency report, for example, Twitter says the company received US government requests involving 1,319 Twitter users, and that the company complied with 67 percent of the requests. Twitter’s Transparency Report is posted here.
